Council is inviting the community to have their say on the preferred location for a new off-leash dog park in Leeton.
The new facility will replace the existing dog park on Brobenah Road, which will make way for Council's future affordable housing project.
Council recently secured $5.192 million through Round 2 of the NSW Sustainable Communities Program to deliver essential infrastructure for the housing project, including roads, water, sewer and stormwater drainage. The program is funded by the Australian Government and delivered by the NSW Government.
Following two targeted consultation sessions with users of the existing dog park, Council has shortlisted four potential locations:
- Enticknap Park
- Racecourse Reserve
- Mark Taylor Oval
- Waipukurau Park
Council remains open to considering other feasible locations if the shortlisted sites do not meet the community's needs.
Mayor Cr George Weston encouraged dog owners and other interested community members to review the options and provide feedback.
"We know the dog park is an important and well-used facility, so we want the community to help us find the best possible location for its replacement," Mayor Weston said.
"At the same time, relocating the dog park will allow Council to progress an important housing project that will help create more affordable housing opportunities for working people and families in Leeton."
The survey asks participants to nominate their preferred location and identify features they would like considered, such as secure fencing, shade, seating, drinking water, parking and separate areas for small and large dogs.
Council has allocated $100,000 for the new dog park. While not every suggested feature may be achievable within the available budget, the feedback will help Council identify community priorities and inform potential future upgrades, subject to available funding.
Council has made a commitment to have a replacement dog park operational before the existing Brobenah Road facility closes.
Community members can complete the survey online at haveyoursay.leeton.nsw.gov.au or collect a hard-copy form from the Leeton Shire Council Administration Building, Leeton Shire Library, Yanco Shop, and Whitton or Murrami Post Offices.
Feedback closes Monday, 31 August 2026.
