- 10 organisations receive funding for projects to tackle litter
- Community Litter Grants have provided more than $650,000 since 2013
- Keep Australia Beautiful Week runs from 4-10 August
Ten organisations will share in more than $58,000 to support litter prevention initiatives across Western Australia.
The Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn announced the latest round of Community Litter Grants to coincide with Keep Australia Beautiful Week, a national initiative to educate people about litter, waste and protecting the environment.
The grants provide up to $10,000 for projects that seek to change littering behaviour and work towards a litter-free community, consistent with the Keep Australia Beautiful Council's Litter Prevention Strategy for Western Australia 2020-2025 .
This year, the majority of grant recipients are based in regional Western Australia.
Successful projects include educational programs that empower children to lead local clean-ups, deliver interactive litter education shows to young children, and raise awareness of roadside litter through community art and data collection.
Grants have also been allocated to initiatives that will engage diverse communities in bushland clean-ups in Kalgoorlie-Boulder and transform ocean debris into public art to inspire stewardship in the Abrolhos Islands.
The Community Litter Grants have allocated $650,000 to a wide range of organisations since 2013.
The theme for Keep Australia Beautiful Week 2025 is 'Picking up the Pieces' which highlights the shared responsibility of restoring and maintaining the beauty of our environment.
