Planning for an improved Linkfield Road overpass is continuing after community consultation showed strong support for an upgrade.

The Australian and Queensland governments have jointly committed $125 million on an 80:20 basis to deliver the Linkfield Road overpass upgrade.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce said the upgrade would improve safety and address a range of issues at the Gympie Arterial Road and Linkfield Road interchange.

"The community are extremely supportive of the upgrade with key themes around improving the interchange and widening or duplicating the Linkfield Road overpass," Mr Joyce said.

"Detailed planning for the overpass upgrade is almost complete, with the preferred design option expected to be confirmed soon."

Queensland Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey said the project team had listened to the community to ensure its views and local knowledge would be reflected in the detailed planning stage.
