Council is inviting community feedback on its draft Capital Works Priorities for 2026-27, giving residents the opportunity to contribute to shaping infrastructure investment before the annual Budget is finalised.
The draft document outlines Council's proposed capital works program over the next four years and reflects extensive planning informed by key strategic documents, including the Community Vision 2041, Council Plan 2025-2029, Asset Plan 2025-2035, Financial Plan 2025-2035, and other adopted strategies.
Mayor Cr Brian Klowss said the initiative represents an important step toward greater transparency and community involvement in Council decision-making.
"We are committed to making decisions that genuinely reflect the needs and priorities of our community,"
"By seeking feedback earlier in the process, we're giving our community a real opportunity to influence where Council invests over the coming years," said Cr Klowss.
The high-level document provides an overview of proposed expenditure across different asset classes, including roads, buildings, and public spaces. It also identifies whether projects are new, upgrades, or renewals, and outlines how Council intends to fund them through a combination of grants, contributions, loans, and general revenue.
Cr Klowss said community input would play a vital role in refining the final program.
"This is about checking our priorities to ensure they align with what our community values most, while also being financially responsible,"
"We want to make sure that when the Budget is adopted, it reflects both strong long-term planning and the voices of our residents," said Cr Klowss.
The draft priorities remain subject to change as budget development progresses, particularly as funding sources such as grants become clearer.
Community members are encouraged to review the draft and provide feedback between Wednesday 25 March and Thursday 16 April 2026.
Following the consultation period, Council will review feedback, refine priorities if and where needed, and incorporate them into the Draft 2026-27 Budget, which is expected to be presented at the May Council Meeting.
"This is your chance to help shape the future of our community,"
"We encourage everyone to take a look and have their say," said Cr Klowss.
