Locals and visitors travelling along Mildura's new-look Deakin Avenue will now be greeted with a very large and obvious sign we've entered the festive season following the arrival of a giant Christmas tree.

The tree will be completed tomorrow (Tuesday 18 November), taking centre stage in the Deakin Avenue centre median between Seventh and Eighth Streets.

The Christmas tree will be complemented by up to 150 large Christmas tree bows, which will be installed across the district, including the Mildura riverfront, Mildura Arts Centre, and Mildura Visitor Information Centre.

Mildura Mayor Ali Cupper said it was hoped the Christmas Tree and decorations would help the local community celebrate the festive season and brighten up prominent areas of the city.

"For several years now our community has told us they'd like to see more Christmas decorations and displays in Mildura throughout the festival season, and I think it's a great idea," Cr Cupper said.

"We hope the Christmas tree and display will also be noticed by the thousands of visitors who descend on our city from now until late December, enticing them to come back or explore an even friendlier looking city centre.

"And based in Deakin Avenue at one of the main entry points to our city coming from Seventh Street, it will certainly be noticed."

Cr Cupper said the Christmas tree would be among several displays that could be established in the prominent Deakin Avenue location throughout the year.

"As part of the Deakin Avenue centre median redevelopment, we've established a platform that can be used for similar large displays throughout the year, offering good visibility, accessibility and space for people to safely gather and enjoy the display," she said.

Cr Cupper said the giant Christmas tree would be erected in the same location each year, making it a permanent fixture for Mildura's festive season.
