Council and the Rotary Club of Alexandra led the Walk for Respect on Friday 28 November 2025 at Rotary Park, taking a stand against gender-based and domestic violence, with over 200 participants joining in support.

In the year ending March 2025, there were 208 family violence incidents reported in Murrindindi Shire - a 14.3% increase on the previous year. These figures highlight the urgent need for greater awareness and collective action.

The event began with time to explore the eight stalls, connecting people with local services and information resources, and enjoying the yarn-bombed trees created by the Redgate CWA craft group.

Mayor Damien Gallagher and Alison Maclean from VincentCare's Marian Community addressed the crowd, highlighting the need for collective action to prevent violence and promote respectful relationships across the Shire. Speakers stressed that rising reports of family violence demand a united response and a clear declaration that 'enough is enough'.

Participants then took the 1.5 kilometre walk along the UT Creek path. They were welcomed at the far end with purple-iced cupcakes provided by Dindi Daycare before returning to the Park for a BBQ lunch hosted by Alexandra Fire Brigade.

Council extends a heartfelt thank you to all those who attended and contributed to the day, wearing purple in a communal stand against violence and respectful relationships.
