May 3, 2019 - OTTAWA, ON - Competition Bureau
Today, the Competition Bureau provided its views to the B.C. Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy on competition issues raised by certain bylaws adopted by Metro Vancouver.
The Bureau expressed concerns that these bylaws may have a negative effect on the level of competition and innovation for certain waste management services in the Metro Vancouver area.
The Bureau believes that measures that have significant negative effects on competition should only be implemented when legitimate public policy objectives cannot be achieved without these harmful consequences.
The Bureau encourages the Minister to consider whether Metro Vancouver's environmental objectives could be met through other means that would allow the area's residents to benefit from competition, which drives innovation, lower prices, increased product choice and higher quality services.
