Confidence soars in Forestry Industry

A new report confirms the strength of our forestry industry with more than 5700 direct and indirect Tasmanian jobs supported by the sector.

"The socio-economic impacts of the forest industry- Tasmania" by the University of Canberra’s Jacki Schirmer confirmed that while 37.5 per cent of jobs were in the South, the majority or 62.5 per cent were in the Northern region of Tasmania.

Furthermore, the report also confirmed that the direct and indirect output generated by the Tasmanian forestry industry totalled more than $1,277 million.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has been working hard to create jobs and build the forestry industry after the Labor/Green disaster.

This report is proof the return of the Hodgman Liberal Government has also returned confidence in the industry, boosted forestry investment, exports and employment.

A total of 55 per cent of businesses felt demand would grow for their services or products over the next 12 months, with the remaining 45 per cent reporting demand would remain the same.

Encouragingly, no business reported feeling that demand for their service or products would reduce.

We are committed to continuing our efforts to double the forest, fine timber, and wood fiber value add to $1.2 billion by 2036.

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes this report and the impact it will have in providing more confidence and certainty in the industry.
