Construction Commences On Sheedy Road Upgrade

Construction commences on Sheedy Road Upgrade
An upgrade to a section of Sheedy Road in Virginia has commenced this week.

An upgrade to a section of Sheedy Road in Virginia has commenced this week, with Council continuing works to improve its important traffic links across the city.

Upgrades will be carried out between Old Port Wakefield Road and O'Loughlin Road to make travel easier for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

These works will lift the road to an urban standard, delivering a new smooth surface and upgraded infrastructure including footpaths, street lighting, kerbing and stormwater systems.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said rising residential growth in the Virginia township area has driven increased activity along the road and the upgrade responds to this growth as well as the community's desire to see the road improved.

"This is becoming an important traffic link and the upgrade will directly support the needs of our growing community and the increasing number of new homes in this area," said the Mayor.

"The Sheedy Road upgrade is about improving accessibility and delivering the improvements the community has been asking for. It will ensure this rural standard road is upgraded to meet urban standards and to cater for now and future demand."

Some temporary disruption is expected during construction, with detours via Park Road and traffic management measures in place to keep the community moving safely.

All roadworks and closures in Playford are updated on our website weekly.

The project is expected to be completed in late winter 2026.
