Construction starts on North Wall Beach makeover

The Crisafulli Government is delivering a new and improved North Wall Beach for Mackay, with construction now underway to revitalise the popular coastal area beside the Port of Mackay.
The $2 million project – led by North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation (NQBP) and completed by Queensland-based JMAC Constructions – includes a sealed car park with more spaces, better accessibility, and new shade and seating for locals and visitors.
The final design was shaped through community input, including from the Yuwi Aboriginal Corporation, Mackay and District Turtle Watch, and NQBP's Port of Mackay Community Reference Group.
Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Ros Bates said the upgrade is part of the Government's commitment to supporting regional jobs and lifestyle.
"Mackay plays a key role in driving Queensland's economy – and locals should enjoy the benefits of modern infrastructure and quality public spaces," Minister Bates said.
Member for Mackay Nigel Dalton said the upgraded facilities will make one of the region's most loved spots even better.
"North Wall is already a favorite when the swell's up. These improvements will make the area safer, more accessible, and more comfortable for everyone," Mr Dalton said.
Member for Mirani Glen Kelly said the project is another example of delivering for communities right across the region.
"It's a smart investment that respects the local character while improving access and amenities," Mr Kelly said.
NQBP Acting CEO Carissa Mansfield said the project was a great example of local collaboration.
"We've worked closely with the community on this project and are pleased to be partnering with a trusted Queensland company to bring it to life," Ms Mansfield said.
JMAC Project Manager Asher Wilkinson said the team is proud to be involved in enhancing such a significant local space.
Construction is expected to be completed by late 2025. Temporary car parking and beach access remain in place to ensure safe use during the works.
