Construction stimulus supports Sunshine Coast tradie jobs

The Sunshine Coast building sector is set for a significant boost through the Palaszczuk Government’s $100 million Works for Tradies stimulus.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Mick de Brenni said the accelerated social housing construction program forms part of a $267 million building boost, delivering Queensland’s plan to Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs.

Mr de Brenni visited one of the social housing projects under construction on the Sunshine Coast at Landsborough, a new $3.7 million complex supporting 120 jobs.

“Being built by Murphy Builders Qld Pty Ltd of Mooloolaba, this project is forecast for completion by the end of the year,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Our Works for Tradiesplan will see contracts signed to commence construction of an additional 215 new social homes across Queensland by the end of next year,” he said.

“We expect this program will support 240 jobs in construction across the State and that means jobs for Sunshine Coast electricians, plumbers, carpenters, bricklayers, concreters and landscapers, as well as a wealth of new opportunities for local businesses that support their work.

“This means that next year we will begin construction of a total 52 homes here on the Sunshine Coast, creating local jobs for tradies like the ones from Murphy Builders working on site here in Landsborough today, as well as manufacturing jobs along the supply chain.

Mr de Brenni said the Works for Tradies stimulus complements the Queensland Government’s successful Housing Construction Jobs Program which is forecast to deliver 2972 new social homes in priority regions right across the State by 2022.

Mr de Brenni said the Palaszczuk Government was encouraging Queensland builders to provide their register of interest to government for the additional 215 homes that would be under construction this coming financial year.
