Construction is underway at Toomuc Recreation Reserve in Pakenham.
The $6.3 million project will see the site's three pavilions upgraded and portable facilities for baseball installed.
Construction on the project began in March and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Councillor Brett Owen visited the site last Thursday with La Trobe MP Jason Wood.
"We saw that the demolition of the netball rooms, canteen and gym is now complete and the remaining demolition of the bottom floor of the northern pavilion will soon be underway," Cr Owen said.
"The site cut of the southern pavilion extension and new baseball pavilion has also been completed with these building works expected to begin shortly."
Toomuc Ward Councillor Stephanie Davies said the upgrades would cater to the growing needs of sporting groups and enhance accessibility for the large number of families who use the reserve.
"This is an exciting project and another example of what can be achieved when federal, state and local government collaborate and work together," Cr Davies said.
The northern pavilion will see the ground floor extended to include change rooms for both football and cricket clubs as well as separate facilities for the netball club.
The upgrades will also include a renovated canteen, new first aid room, extra storage and a balcony extension on the upper level.
The southern pavilion will be extended which will include accessible amenities and change rooms, public toilets, a first aid room and an upgraded kitchen to the existing pavilion.
The baseball pavilion will include accessible toilets, a canteen, change rooms, new umpire rooms and accessible ramps and paths, while the little athletics building upgrade is set to involve the refurbishment of the kitchen.
Federal member for La Trobe Jason Wood MP said it was great to see this $6.3M upgrade of the Toomuc Recreation Reserve, which will benefit user groups including football, netball, baseball, athletics and cricket, finally underway.
"I'm especially proud that this upgrade will promote female participation in sport and give them the amenities they need and deserve," he said.
"I fought tooth and nail to secure $4.75 million in Federal funding and as I always say, promises made, promises delivered."
State member for Bass Jordan Crugnale praised the works at Toomuc Recreation Reserve.
"Wonderful to see the works progressing well with these wonderful, inclusive family-friendly clubs at the centre of everything we do."
The Australian Government contributed $4.75 million towards the project, Cardinia Shire Council $1.5 million and the Victorian Government $50,000.
