Logan City Special School will soon be home to a brand-new building thanks to a $9.5 million investment from the Palaszczuk Government.
Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said construction of the new learning centre has now begun, with work anticipated to be completed in time for the 2021 school year.
"This project means a lot to everyone involved with Logan City Special School, and I can't wait to watch this new building come to life over the next 12 months," Mr Dick said.
"The two-storey centre will include eight learning spaces, one therapy room, a staffroom, kitchens and a covered set-down area.
"The building will also have an undercroft, which has the capacity for four more classrooms and an additional therapy room in the future.
"It will allow staff to cater to the differing needs students, providing them with the resources they need to learn, develop skills and reach their full potential."
Logan City Special School Principal Rod Kirkland said the entire school community was very excited to see the project delivered.
"The new centre is going to be absolutely fantastic for our school community and we're all really looking forward to having a brand new learning facility featuring contemporary design," Mr Kirkland said.
"Having a mix of classroom-style and break-out areas will help us deliver flexible and tailored teaching and learning for our students, while the design also includes a covered set-down area to improve access for families when there's rain about."
Logan City Special School caters for students from early childhood through to Year 12. Badge Constructions will carry out the learning centre build.
