Consultation to boost business by improving regulator responsiveness

Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet,
Minister for the Public Service,
Special Minister of State

The Morrison Government is inviting feedback on how regulators can best support Australian businesses to drive investment.

Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ben Morton, said the Government wants to hear from Australian businesses first-hand.

"We want to know how regulators can help Australian businesses bounce back and grow during market shocks, while still keeping Australians safe," Minister Morton said.

"We've seen many examples of regulatory flexibility during COVID-19. It's important we learn from these experiences to identify appropriate legislative changes and any necessary temporary or special 'emergency' discretionary powers.

"We are focused on improving outcomes for businesses across all industries to grow business and create jobs."

The consultation will focus on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and other market shocks to improve regulator responsiveness, to ensure business is better prepared during potential future disruptions.

Ensuring we learn collectively and embed change from recent shocks is just one initiative in the Morrison Government's Deregulation Agenda to lift the performance, capability and culture of all of its regulators.
