Contract Awarded for Tarneit-Leakes Intersection Upgrade

Construction on the Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade will begin this month after Wyndham City awarded the construction contract for the $10.5 million project.

This Connecting Wyndham priority project will duplicate the intersection, adding extra lanes to cater for growing traffic and minimise traffic disruptions.

It will also upgrade and install new traffic lights to improve the flow of traffic and introduce both on-road and off-road cycling lanes to enhance cyclist safety and connectivity.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said the project would enhance the capacity, safety and efficiency of this major intersection.

"The Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection is a vital connection in Wyndham's road network," Cr Shaw said.

"This important upgrade will significantly improve turning capacity at this intersection as well as overall traffic flow, making it easier for our community to travel around Tarneit and neighbouring suburbs."

"This project has been prioritised due to its significant impact on road safety and traffic congestion, based on both thorough analysis and community feedback."

Wimba Ward Councillor Josh Gilligan added: "No one likes being stuck in traffic - and the Tarneit Road and Leakes Road intersection upgrade is a crucial investment in the future of Wyndham City, aiming to create a safer, more efficient, and connected transportation network for all residents and visitors."

"It will also substantially enhance safety for all road users, with better pedestrian and cycling linkages for those walking or cycling."
