Contractor Chosen for Rockhampton, Bundaberg Upgrades

Minister for Transport and Main Roads The Honourable Brent Mickelberg
  • The Crisafulli Government has awarded the contract to upgrade Rockhampton and Bundaberg train stations, which the former Labor Government neglected during its decade of decline.
  • DT Infrastructure (DTI) will deliver the design and construction of Bundaberg and Rockhampton, with Maryborough West set to follow later this year.
  • The upgrades are part of the Crisafulli Government's commitment to delivering the infrastructure for a growing population after the former state Labor Government neglected regional Queensland.

The Crisafulli Government is building Queensland's future, with major upgrades set to start at Rockhampton and Bundaberg train stations after a contractor was announced to commence work this year.

The upgrades to Rockhampton and Bundaberg stations are part of the Crisafulli Government's plan to deliver the infrastructure for a growing population, after the former state Labor Government neglected regional Queensland throughout their decade of decline.

With almost 140,000 customers visiting both stations each year, Rockhampton and Bundaberg serve as important hubs for travel up and down Queensland's coastline.

These upgrades will deliver an uplift to one of the oldest stations in the network, as well as providing improvements to security and accessibility, including new CCTV and signage, the installation of tactile ground indicators, handrails where required, variable desk height at the luggage check in desks and new accessible toilets.

Station car parks will also be upgraded, along with a new drop‑off zone designed to integrate with other public transport providers.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Crisafulli Government was building regional Queensland's future.

"We are delivering upgrades in our regions, which were overlooked for years under the former state Labor Government," Minister Mickelberg said.

"Rockhampton and Bundaberg deserve modern train stations that are fit for purpose, and that is exactly what Donna Kirkland, Stephen Bennett and the Crisafulli Government are delivering."

"We know how critical passenger and freight rail services are for Rockhampton and Bundaberg, as well as their surrounding communities, – we're getting on with the job of delivering the infrastructure to support local growth and increasing demand."

Member for Rockhampton Donna Kirkland said the project was welcomed by the community.

"Upgrading Rockhampton station supports local jobs and the local community, while providing much needed infrastructure for the future," Mrs Kirkland said.

"This is just another way we are getting on with delivering the roads and infrastructure needed for our growing community."

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett said the Crisafulli Government was delivering for regional Queensland.

"The Crisafulli Government is delivering investment and a plan for a growing population in regional Queensland after they were neglected during the former Labor Government's decade of decline," Mr Bennett said.

"Better connections for passengers travelling across the state, along with stronger freight links to get local goods to market, are just some of the benefits a better Bundaberg Station will deliver."
