Contraflow driver intercepted on Princes Freeway at Werribee

A woman has been charged with drink driving after travelling on the wrong side of the Princes Freeway between Little River and Werribee last night, Victoria Police say.

Police estimate that the woman allegedly drove approximately 18 kilometres on the wrong side of the freeway before she was intercepted near Duncans Road at 10.20pm.

Police communications received numerous calls from drivers on the freeway who narrowly avoided the woman as she travelled towards them.

The driver, a 23-year-old Pakenham woman, was conveyed to the Werribee Police Station where she was breath tested which resulted in a .177 per cent reading.

The woman was charged with drink driving, conduct endangering life, dangerous driving and a number of other traffic offences.

The woman’s licence was immediately suspended and her car, a Holden Barina, was impounded at a cost of $1006.10 for a period of one month.

She has been bailed to appear at the Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 19 December 2018
