The Cook Government has awarded a record $152,500 to celebrate Youth Week WA 2026, including a grants program, a regional launch event and a closing event in the metropolitan area.
The government has awarded $125,000 through the Youth Week WA Grants Program to 42 organisations and local governments across the State to run events during Youth Week WA 2026, held from 10-16 April.
Each grant of up to $10,000 will support successful applicants to host free community events that celebrate the talents of young people, showcase their skills, and empower them to share their ideas.
All events will be co-designed or led by young people, providing them the opportunity to drive the celebrations they want to see in their local area.
Youth Week WA is the State's largest annual celebration of young people, and aims to highlight the positive contributions that people aged 10-25 make in their communities across Western Australia.
Events receiving funding span from the Kimberley to the Great Southern, including:
- Shire of Cunderdin's STRIVE Youth Markets, which will celebrate the creativity and entrepreneurship of young people through a youth-led night market open to the public;
- City of Kalamunda's PlaceJam festival, which will empower young people with the skills to transform overlooked community spaces into legendary local spots;
- Belmont Saints Squash and Sports Club's all abilities squash tournament for young people aged 10 and above;
- Shire of East Pilbara will host the Newman Youth Week Festival, including high-energy activities; and
- Spectrum Space Inc's sensory-inclusive Glow & Flow Silent Disco for young people with autism aged 10-18 in Fremantle.
Youth Week WA 2026 will be launched in the Shire of Capel, and centre on the theme 'Strength in our Stories', which highlights the power of young people's diverse experiences and backgrounds to bring about change, overcome challenges, and strengthen communities.
In addition to the $125,000 in Youth Week grants, the Cook Government will also provide $7,500 to the Shire of Capel to host the Youth Week WA 2026 launch.
Another $20,000 will be granted to a community organisation to host the Youth Week WA 2026 closing event in the metropolitan area, bringing the total funding to more than $152,000.
