- Cook Government to hold Fuel Security Roundtable on Wednesday, 11 March 2026
- Discussions will help inform Western Australia's response to potential future disruptions to supply as a result of the Middle East conflict
- Senior Government representatives and industry leaders from key sectors to attend
The Cook Government will convene a Fuel Security Roundtable tomorrow to gain insights from fuel industry representatives and key sectors on the potential impacts of conflict in the Middle East.
The roundtable will be held at Dumas House with State Government Ministers and Western Australian industry leaders in attendance.
The Commonwealth Government is responsible for monitoring the status of fuel supply and domestic fuel reserves in all states and territories, and the most recent advice continues to be that there has been no direct impact to fuel supply, with fuel continuing to arrive in Australia in expected volumes.
However, there have been temporary disruptions to supply at some retailers as a result of increased demand.
The Fuel Security Roundtable will help policymakers understand the situation on the ground and inform Western Australia's response to any potential disruptions. Discussions will also feed into the Cook Government's ongoing engagement with the Commonwealth Government.
As stated by Premier Roger Cook:
"I am receiving regular briefings on the conflict in the Middle East, and my government is actively monitoring and preparing for any potential impacts here.
"The latest advice indicates that there are no direct impacts to fuel supply in Australia, but we are seeing increased demand as a result of panic buying.
"This is leading to temporary disruptions to supply at some retailers, and I understand this is creating anxiety for some Western Australian families and businesses.
"The Fuel Security Roundtable will help my government understand what is happening on the ground so we can decide on next steps and ensure Western Australia remains resilient to potential challenges."
As stated by Treasurer and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"At this time of global uncertainty, it is more important than ever that we double down on our efforts to keep Western Australia's economy strong and support the industries that keep our State running.
"By bringing business, transport industry representatives, and government together, we will be able to gain valuable insights, putting us in the best possible position to address potential future challenges with fuel supply."
As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"This is an important opportunity to hear from industry leaders about the situation on the ground and how the State Government can support local communities and industries through this period of uncertainty.
"Western Australia has very unique requirements and this forum will be an opportunity to feed into the Federal policy response and ensure our interests are protected."
