  • $200,000 allocated in 2025-26 State Budget to progress additional family and domestic violence accommodation in Geraldton
  • Planning and business case development underway to deliver eight new units, bringing total to 12
  • $11.5 million to roll out Safe at Home program to seven new locations including Geraldton
  • Cook Government committed to ensuring all Western Australians feel secure at home, at work and in the community

The Cook Labor Government is progressing delivery of two key local election commitments in the Geraldton area to improve the safety and wellbeing of women and children impacted by family and domestic violence (FDV).

While visiting Geraldton today, Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Jessica Stojkovski visited Chrysalis House refuge and met with FDV service providers and community leaders.

The Minister provided an update on the delivery of two local commitments to respond to family and domestic violence - including $15.4 million to deliver eight new refuge units, and the establishment of the Safe at Home program in Geraldton.

As part of the 2025-26 State Budget, $200,000 was allocated to progress the delivery the additional crisis accommodation units, bringing the total number of units in Geraldton to 12.

Early planning work is underway, with a business case currently being developed to inform the project's scope.

The Safe at Home program expansion will provide support to help women and children remain safely in their own homes once the perpetrator has been removed, through risk assessments, safety planning and security upgrades.

Since 2017, the Cook Labor Government has invested more than half a billion dollars to prevent family and domestic violence and expanded refuge capacity by 41 per cent.

As stated by Prevention of Family and Domestic Violence Minister Jessica Stojkovski:

"Every woman and child deserves to feel safe whether that's in crisis accommodation or in the comfort of their own home.

"These investments will mean support for women and children when they need it the most and safer and secure communities in the Mid West."

As stated by Sandra Carr MLC:

"This is critical funding to support the important work of organisations in our region who support family and domestic violence survivors.

"I also take this opportunity to thank the staff at Chrysalis House refuge, and all our FDV service providers for the work they do to help keep our community safe."
