Kiama Council will undertake remediation works in Coronation Park this year to repair damage caused by recent storms.

Kiama Mayor Cameron McDonald said: "Coronation Park is a much-loved loved park and playground right in the heart of our main town and the recent weather absolutely knocked it around. It is clear it is not going to fix itself and needs some serious help from Council."

Council has had initial discussions with Coronation Park users including the Kiama Farmers Market and St Peters and Pauls school, and will also meet with Kiama High School, local sports clubs and other park users.

The remediation works will include removal of sand, clearing paths and restoration of the grass areas.

Once Council has drafted a scope of works, we will go out to tender.

Work is expected to begin around July this year and is likely to take several months.

"We know this will be an inconvenience, but the work is necessary. Council will keep you informed and updated, as we move through the process. We're looking forward to having one of our most popular parks back to where it should be," Cr McDonald said.

Coronation-Park-3-phase-power-bollard-web Council has recently installed three-phase power to Coronation Park, which will also enhance the usability of the space for markets and events.

Funding for the remediation works will come from the Crown Lands reserve.
