Federation Council has formally noted the community feedback on its draft Stormwater Servicing Plan (SSP) and resolved to develop a comprehensive implementation plan before final adoption.
The decision, made at Council's Ordinary meeting in September marks an important milestone in preparing the region's infrastructure to support an estimated 4,500 new development lots over the next 40 years primarily in Corowa, Howlong and Mulwala.
Following a $231,000 NSW Government Grant under the Regional Housing Strategic Planning Fund, the $134.3 million strategic framework was prepared by specialist consultants Alluvium Consulting. The plan introduces innovative concepts such as modern 'chain of ponds' waterways, wetlands and retarding basins to manage future floor risks while enhancing green spaces and community amenity.
Federation Council General Manager Adrian Butler said this Stormwater Servicing Plan is a vital blueprint for growth of our major township over the next four decades.
"Following a public exhibition period held between May and June 2026, Council received feedback from local property owners and stakeholders particularly around land requirements, existing drainage constraints and funding mechanisms," Mr Butler said.
"In response, Council has advised staff to draft a clear implementation plan to detail how the high level strategy will be executed on the ground prior to its formal adoption. We've heard the feedback from our community and Councillors during the public exhibition particularly regarding how these high level concepts transition into practical action. Developing a clear implementation plan is the next logical step."
The Stormwater Servicing Plan will ultimately inform Federation Council's broader Growth Management Strategy ensuring future urban development is supported by robust sustainable water management infrastructure.
