At a Statutory Meeting of Central Goldfields Shire Council last night (15/11), Maryborough Ward Councillor Grace La Vella was sworn in as Mayor for the next 12 months.

Mayor Cr La Vella said it was an honour to be elected to the position of Mayor and that she will work to achieve enormous benefits for the community over the next year.

"It is a huge honour to be elected as Central Goldfields Shire Mayor and my privilege to represent this community for the next 12 months. We have accomplished so much as Councillors and Council over the past two years but there is still much more to do.

"I look forward to continuing to work hard on behalf of our community and continuing our advocacy for our Shire, particularly focusing on the delivery of Council's Priority Projects, the restoration of the Town Hall, the restoration and revitalisation of the Bristol Hill memorial tower and precinct to be a tourist attraction to be proud of.

"Another focus is the progression of the Central Victorian World Heritage Bid which will be headed by Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor whom I would also like to thank for his outstanding leadership and commitment over the past two years.

"Cr Meddows-Taylor has achieved many things for this community during this time, including but not limited to working to secure funding for the World Heritage Bid and four weekend rail services added to the Maryborough passenger rail line."
