Cessnock City Council is hosting a free workshop on seed saving, the first workshop of its kind available for local residents.
This exciting sustainability workshop will be facilitated by Mark & Kate from Purple Pear Farm, a biodynamic permaculture farm located in Anambah, and cover topics such as seed saving methods, identifying when it's the right time to collect seed, preparing seeds for storage, monitoring seed quality, growing from seed, when to grow from cuttings, and more!
Cessnock City Mayor Jay Suvaal said that this workshop will provide valuable knowledge and insights for home growers, whether they consider themselves to be at a beginner or experienced level.
"I'm thrilled that Council is partnering with local experts to teach residents how to save money and increase their chances of producing resilient, hardy plants," said Clr Suvaal.
"This workshop will not only outline how to significantly reduce the cost of purchasing new seeds each growing season, but also highlight the importance of grassroots efforts in building a more resilient and sustainable food system."

The free workshop will be held at Cessnock Men's Shed and Garden between 11:00am–2:00pm on the Saturday 1 June 2024. Morning tea will be provided, and a BBQ lunch will be available on the day for a gold coin donation.
This is one of a series of sustainability events taking place as part of Council's Less is More campaign. The event is open to everyone, however bookings are essential. Spots can be reserved by visiting the booking platform here.
