Council is urging the State Government to prioritise e-bike and e-scooter safety improvements, including a review of legislation that currently permits the importation of high-powered, non-compliant devices.
In response to a significant rise in community concerns about the use of e-mobility devices in the region, Council has submitted feedback to the Parliamentary Inquiry into E-Scooter and E-Bike Safety.
Council's submission also calls for stricter helmet enforcement, enhanced safety awareness campaigns, targeted education initiatives, stronger oversight of youth riders, and measures to address public safety risks linked to device batteries.
While Council does not permit shared commercial e-scooter or e-bike hire on Council-controlled land, it acknowledges the growing popularity of e-mobility devices. Council remains committed to supporting the community by advocating for practical safety measures and responsible use of e-mobility devices across the region.
