Council Connect 9 October, 2026

Hello, Dungog Shire. Cr James Campbell here with your weekly Council Connect update.

We're looking ahead to the future of some of our much-loved community facilities, and we'd really like your input. Council is developing plans for the Dungog and Clarence Town swimming pools, as well as the Williams River Holiday Park in Clarence Town. And before we start making those plans, we want to hear from you.

What do you love about these places? What could be improved, and what would you like to see there in the future? We've got a couple of community drop-in sessions coming up later this month, the first is on Tuesday, 27 October, at the Doug Walters Pavilion in Dungog, from 5:30 to 7:30pm where we'll be talking about the Dungog Pool. Then on Wednesday, 28 October, we'll be at the Clarence Town School of Arts from 4:30 to 6:30pm. where you can share your ideas for both the Clarence Towns Pool and Williams River Holiday Park.

If you can't come along, there are also online surveys available on council's website until the 6th November. We'd love to hear from everyone, even if you don't currently use these facilities. It's a great opportunity to help shape what these places might look like in the years ahead, so please get involved and have your say.

Now, if you've been thinking about getting into the garden and giving everything a bit of a spring tidy up, this weekend might be the perfect time. Our annual kerbside green waste collection starts next Monday, 12 October, and runs throughout the week. The collection is available to eligible households throughout the shire in Dungog, Clarence Town, Gresford, East Gresford, Paterson, Vacy, and Martins Creek.

You can put out up to two cubic meters of green waste, including branches, garden prunings, grass clippings, and other garden vegetation.

Just a couple of things to remember: please put your green waste out this weekend, ready for collection from Monday, and make sure it's neatly bundled and easy for one person to lift. Grass clippings and loose vegetation need to go into sturdy cardboard boxes, and please don't use plastic bags or wires to tie your bundles.

You can find all the details about what can and can't be collected on council's website. So if your garden is looking a little overgrown after winter, here's your chance to give it some attention.

And finally, next Wednesday, Council will be meeting at the Clarence Town School of Arts for a reactivation meeting of our community-led committee for the School of Arts Hall. If you would like to help shape the future of one of Clarence Town's most historic sites, please get involved. The meeting will be from 5:30pm next Wednesday.

That's all from me for now. Have a great weekend.
