Townsville City Council crews have cleaned up fish that died after being flushed out of drying pools by recent rain.
About 1000 dead fish were found near Framara Park in Kelso and were cleaned up by Council crews over the weekend.
A composting process will be used to turn the material into fertiliser for Council gardens.
Community Environment and Health Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said Council crews responded immediately after the fish kill was reported.
"Council crews went out and started cleaning up the dead fish to reduce any odour and to clean up the waterway," Cr Greaney said.
"Importantly, the material is able to be put to use as a fertiliser after it goes through a composting process."
Local Councillor Mark Molachino said he was pleased the clean up occurred so quickly after being reported.
"The Ross River will take a bit of time to get back to normal after the unprecedented floods but Council crews will be out there working to make sure any issues are fixed as soon as possible," Cr Molachino said.
