Federation Council would like to thank local residents who came down to the Corowa Civic Centre for a dedicated Halve Waste drop-in advice session, taking proactive steps towards creating a cleaner, more sustainable region.
Running from 9am to 2pm, the free event provided the community with direct, face-to-face access to a waste management expert. Residents could bring along their trickiest disposal questions, seeking advice on everything from correct bin sorting practices to managing hard to recycle household items sitting in the shed.
Federation Council Mayor Cr, Cheryl Cook praised the community's enthusiastic participation and commended locals for their dedication to environmental sustainability.
"It was fantastic to see passionate community members drop into the Civic Centre to chat with Penny from Halve Waste," Mayor Cook said.
"Waste Management can sometimes be confusing, especially when dealing with unusual household items or changing recycling guidelines."
The Halve Waste initiative aims to significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill through community education, improved recycling practices and accessible resource recovery services.
Mayor Cook said reducing waste isn't something that Council can do alone, it takes a whole community effort.
"By learning how to sort our bins properly and keep recyclable materials out of landfill, we are protecting our local environment for future generations," she said.
