Shellharbour City Council has welcomed the public exhibition of the NSW Government's Shellharbour City Centre and New Shellharbour Hospital Precinct rezoning proposals, which aim to deliver new homes, jobs and investment to support the city's long-term growth.
Council has worked closely with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure throughout the rezoning process. Prior to the rezoning process commencing Council has been a strong advocate for strategic growth opportunities in both the Shellharbour City Centre and Hospital Precinct.
These proposals support Council's long-standing vision to deliver additional housing, employment opportunities and investment in locations that are well connected to jobs, services, public transport and community infrastructure, while maximising the benefits of major public assets for the community.
Shellharbour City Mayor Chris Homer said the proposals represented a significant opportunity to support Shellharbour's future growth.
"Shellharbour is one of the fastest-growing communities in New South Wales and Council supports the delivery of additional housing and employment opportunities in the right locations," Mayor Homer said.
"The City Centre and Hospital Precinct proposals present a significant opportunity to deliver new housing, create jobs, attract investment and strengthen key centres that will support Shellharbour's future growth."
Council has continued to advocate for infrastructure to be delivered alongside growth, ensuring the community has the roads, services and facilities needed to support future development.
"Growth must be matched by infrastructure," Mayor Homer said.
"Council will continue advocating for key transport upgrades, including improvements to Dunmore Road, the Pioneer Drive/New Lake Entrance Road roundabout and the Oak Flats Interchange, to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with growth and our community can realise its benefits."
Council encourages residents, businesses and stakeholders to review the exhibition material and provide feedback to the NSW Government during the public exhibition period.
Drop-in information sessions will be held at the Auditorium, Shellharbour Civic Centre between 3.30pm - 6.30pm on 24 August and between 11am - 2pm on 25 August 2026.
