Council launch Bass Coast Community Awards

Bass Coast Shire Council is excited to announce the 2023 Bass Coast Community Awards, our brand-new program recognising incredible residents.

The Community Awards program is now open for nominations, closing on 11 April. Our judging panel will have the tough task of selecting our winners.

Council's brilliant 2023 Bass Coast Community Awards winners will be celebrated at a presentation ceremony on 15 May, to align with National Volunteer Week.

The 2023 Bass Coast Community Awards were created to complement Council's existing highly successful Bass Coast Business awards, which also opens for entries in the autumn.

To honour outstanding individuals from across our community, our new categories include:

Community Leader Award (all ages)

For an individual who - in their profession or as a volunteer - leads by example, inspires others and demonstrates excellence and commitment in their field.

Next Generation Leader Award (aged 12 to 25)

Celebrates an exceptional young person(s) who demonstrate leadership and courage, to make an outstanding contribution to the Bass Coast Community that inspires others.

Community Group Award

Recognises a Bass Coast community group, sports club, or not-for-profit, which provides support, events, fundraising or services for the benefit of residents and visitors.

A rotating award will also be chosen each year, including one category from the following:

Environment and Sustainability Award (2023)

Recognises outstanding contributions towards the protection or enhancement of Bass Coast's natural environment, advocating for climate action or embracing sustainable living.

Contribution to Arts and Culture Award (2024)

For those who have made an exceptional contribution to the arts and cultural life of the community or a remarkable achievement in an arts and cultural activity. This can include, but is not limited to individuals, organisations, events and exhibitions.

Sports Leadership Award (2025)

Recognises outstanding contribution in our sport and recreation community to ensure we all can participate in a happy, healthy and inclusive environment (group or individual).

Bass Coast Shire Council Deputy Mayor, Cr. Rochelle Halstead said:

"At Council we know there are many individuals in Bass Coast doing incredible things. From our vibrant sports scene to melting pot of arts creativity, via extensive nature conservation: Bass Coast is powered by dedicated, passionate and generous community members.

"The new Bass Coast Community Awards is a fantastic way to celebrate those amazing community leaders, showcasing their highly valuable work. We also hope these awards inspire others to get involved in giving back to the wonderful people and places that we share our stunning home with.

"I very much look forward to congratulating our first Bass Coast Community Award winners in May."
