Local artists - musicians, performers painters, potters, jewellery makers and more - looking for work should put themselves down for Corangamite Shire Council's online Arts and Entertainment Directory.

Manager Economy and Prosperity Katy McMahon said staff are creating a list of artists which will eventually be displayed on the Council website.

"It will include both youth and general performers, and will be a resource for Council staff and community members when looking for entertainers.

"It's a way to put bands, musicians, other performers, visual artists and makers with organisers who can put them in the spotlight.

"To be eligible, individuals or at least one member of a group, must have a connection to Corangamite Shire, such as living, working or going to school here."

In the Community Vision 2040, Shire residents called for programs and events to connect communities through funding of arts and culture programs, festivals and events.

"As a result, Council's Grow and Prosper Framework prioritises support and promoting a vibrant music scene which led to creation of the Graze the Day festival," Ms McMahon said.

"Our Youth Services Team has also worked with the State Government's Amplify! program (formerly FReeZA) to provide opportunities for young local artists at events like Tracks, Skipton Spring Festival and the Colour Terang Festival.

"Creative industries play an important role in contributing to social connection, community identity, job creation, innovation, entrepreneurship and cultural tourism."
