Council of Australian War Memorial appointment 1 August

Member of the Council of the Australian War Memorial and current Chairman Kerry Stokes AC has been reappointed for a further 12 months.

Minister for Veterans' Affairs Darren Chester said Mr Stokes was a valued member of the Council and that during his time as Chairman the Memorial has continued to grow in stature and now attracts more than one million visitors every year.

"In partnership with former Memorial Director Brendan Nelson, the Council under Kerry's leadership has prepared extensive plans to better tell the story of the modern generation of servicemen and women," Mr Chester said.

"Kerry is focused on working with Memorial Director Matt Anderson the Memorial Development Project, which will provide more exhibition space for displays which explain Australia's involvement in recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions."

"His extraordinary contribution to the respectful commemoration of the service and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force personnel and their families is a testament to Kerry's passion for veterans and their wellbeing."

"I congratulate Kerry and look forward to working with him to ensure the Memorial continues to go from strength to strength."
