Mathieu Mori, Secretary General of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, will visit Lithuania on 16 and 17 April 2026.
The objective of the visit is to discuss democratic security at local level and the implementation of Congress monitoring recommendations on the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government. An emphasis will be put on the contribution of Lithuanian local authorities towards a New Democratic Pact for Europe.
Support to Ukraine and Belarus democratic forces will also be on the agenda.
Secretary General Mori will have meetings with Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Audra Plepytė, Vice-Minister of the Interior Alicija Ščerbaitė and Vice-Mayor of Vilnius Simona Beliunė, as well as members of the Lithuanian delegation to the Congress.
He will also meet Ambassador-at-Large for the Coordination of Recovery and Reconstruction of Ukraine Darius Skusevicius and representatives of the Belarusian Democratic Forces, notably Head of the International Affairs Department of the Coordination Council Dzianis Kuchynski.
On 16 April, the Secretary General will address the Congress of the Association of Local Authorities in Lithuania (ALAL) and meet the Association's President Audrius Klišonis.
