Council of Europe Demands Release of Aleksey Navalnyy

CoE/Committee of Ministers

The Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers has deplored the continued detention of Aleksey Navalnyy and once again demanded that the Russian authorities to immediately release him. The Council of Europe Secretary General has also sent another letter to the Russian Foreign Minister renewing her call for Russia to implement all 2,404 judgments from the European Court.

In its Decision and Interim Resolution published today, the Committee of Ministers deplored the fact that, despite its repeated calls, Aleksey Navalnyy has still not been released and is being detained mainly in solitary confinement without direct and unsupervised access to his lawyers.
