Townsville City Council is constructing a new footpath on Bayswater Rd near a popular school to help make the area safer for students and other pedestrians.
The $200,000 project is funded by the Queensland Government's School Transport Infrastructure Program (STIP) and will run between IGA on Crestbrook Dr and Santa Lucia Dr.
Infrastructure Services Committee chairperson and local councillor Kurt Rehbein said the new footpath would help make the area safer for pedestrians in the area.
"This stretch of road is a thoroughfare for students heading to Calvary Christian College, as well as shoppers who walk down to IGA. This new footpath will help keep pedestrians safer by giving them a designated place to walk," Cr Rehbein said.
"Council is focused on making our suburbs more amenable as the city grows towards the north.
"The new footpath will cover about 250m and will be built by Council's construction crews during the next month, weather permitting."
Cr Rehbein said the new footpath was part of a series of upgrades being made to Mount Louisa.
"Council is currently installing new street lights on Bayswater Rd to help make the area safer, and will soon be starting on a widening and resurfacing project near Woolcock St," he said.
"These are great improvements for the area and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product."
