Port Macquarie Hastings Council is encouraging people looking to kick start a career with Council to consider the 2027 Entry Pathways Program, with now open.
The program provides opportunities to gain practical workplace experience while completing formal study through a traineeship, apprenticeship or cadetship.
Participants receive paid employment, on-the-job training and support from experienced mentors, with opportunities available across a range of Council services and career pathways.
PMHC Group Manager People, Safety and Performance Louise Perry said the program was a great opportunity for people at different stages of their working lives to build skills and experience while contributing to their local community.
"Whether you're finishing school, looking for a career change or wanting to develop practical skills while you study, our Entry Pathways Program provides a supported way to take that next step," Ms Perry said.
"You're able to earn while you learn, gain hands-on experience and work alongside people with significant knowledge and experience in their field.
"It can also be the beginning of a much longer career with Council. We've seen previous participants progress into different roles across the organisation as they develop their skills and identify where they want their career to take them."
To help prospective applicants learn more, Council will host a free information session at the Glasshouse from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday, 15 September.
The session will provide information about the roles available, the application and recruitment process, and what participants can expect from the program. Attendees will also hear from current and former apprentices, trainees and mentors.
Applications for the 2027 Entry Pathways Program open Tuesday, 1 September 2026 and close Tuesday, 6 October.
