Ararat Rural City Council have partnered with Ararat Police to host the fifth annual R U OK? Day Movie Night at the Ararat Astor Theatre, on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
Doors open at 6:30pm, with movies commencing at 7pm. Entry is free for all attendees. R U OK? merchandise and information on starting conversations, and responding to difficult answers, will be available. Drinks and snacks can be purchased on the night.
Launched in response to the growing number of mental health incidents witnessed by local police on the frontlines, this free event provided a relaxed space for the community to come together. Attendees are encouraged to bring their friends, family, and colleagues along to check in on one another during the night and spark meaningful conversations.
The film line-up will include The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the action thriller Mutiny, and comedy Spa Weekend, featuring Australian-born Isla Fisher.
To mark two important awareness days, Ararat Town Hall will light up in teal and purple tomorrow night for World Suicide Prevention Day, followed by lighting-up yellow on Friday for R U OK? Day.
"Taking the time to reach out and really listen is one of the simplest, yet most powerful ways we can support each other," said Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Bob Sanders.
"Events like the R U OK? Day movie night really highlights what our community is all about, and that's coming together and supporting one another when things get tough."
