Council relocates Kempsey Visitor Information Centre

In a year that has presented severe bushfires, drought and a global pandemic, Kempsey Shire Council has successfully delivered on several significant projects as highlighted in its 2019-20 Annual Report.

The report, adopted at the December Council meeting, highlights key initiatives Council has undertaken throughout the 2019-2020 financial year.

Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, said even during one of the most challenging years, she is proud that Council has continued to deliver on key projects that benefit the community.

"We've been able to continue our focus on community engagement and planning to develop and adopt strategic plans for community infrastructure, long-term renewable energy and water security, Crescent Head Public Domain Plan and the Local Strategic Planning Statement," she said.

"This work gives us clear future direction and helps Council's work stay connected to the community."

Some of the priority construction projects completed in 2019-20 included:

  • The new footbridge at Back Creek, South West Rocks
  • The new Turners Flat Bridge which was widened and increased in height making it less susceptible to flooding
  • Major road rehabilitation works along sections of Gowings Hill Road and Armidale Road
  • A $984,000 upgrade to Tozer Street, West Kempsey
  • A $654,000 road upgrade project at Marine Parade, Stuarts Point
  • The construction of 2,370 metres of new and renewed water mains and over 570 metres of sewer mains across the Shire.
  • Proactive management of the Steuart MacIntyre Dam and improvement works to the Kinchela Emergency Water Treatment Plant
  • A $3.6 million works program to revitalise the Stuarts Point Foreshore
  • New equipment and upgrades to six parks and playgrounds across the Macleay
  • $1.62 million investment to install or improve floodlighting at three local sports fields
