Council Secures Funds for Two New Toilet Blocks

Douglas residents visiting the newly upgraded Riverside Green Park will soon be able to stay and play for longer, thanks to the Queensland Government and Member for Mundingburra Janelle Poole MP providing funding for a new public toilet facility.

Deputy Mayor and divisional councillor Suzy Batkovic said she had been progressing upgrades at Riverside Green across three stages in recent years, with a public toilet facility originally earmarked for a future stage of works.

"During the Queensland 2024/25 State Budget, the Member for Mundingburra delivered $750,000 for a toilet facility, and after working closely with Janelle to maximise the available funding, we identified an opportunity to deliver two toilet blocks within the original funding allocation – one at Riverside Green in Douglas, and another at Aplins Weir Rotary Park in Mundingburra," Cr Batkovic said.

"Given the recent upgrades, Riverside Green has become a terrific spot for families not just from division 6, but from across the city. it is great that we can now add a toilet facility to allow families to stay and enjoy the park for longer.

"This funding, delivered by the Member for Mundingburra, has allowed us to bring construction forward – something that could have been another year away."

Member for Mundingburra, Janelle Poole APM MP said she was pleased the original funding would be maximised to deliver for her community.

"We really do have some terrific parks, playgrounds and facilities throughout our city, and this funding will now allow construction for two toilet facilities to enhance these great spaces," Mrs Poole said.

"I am committed to listening to our community to deliver what they need, and that incudes working with our local Council and councillors to identify the best options for delivery.

"These new accessible toilet blocks at Riverside Green and Aplins Weir Rotary Park will be a welcome addition and I look forward to these facilities being completed and being opened for community use in the New Year."

The amenities will be constructed by local contractor Jackson Semler, supporting 30 local jobs in the process.

Councillor Batkovic said working hand-in-hand with her state counterparts had resulted in the delivery of great result for the community.

"This is what two levels of Government working together looks like," Cr Batkovic said.

The new amenities blocks are scheduled to commence construction in March at Aplins Weir Rotary Park and Riverside Green Park, weather and conditions permitting.
