Council Services Continue Under Interim Administrator John Rayner PSM

John Rayner PSM has commenced as Interim Administrator of Clarence Valley Council following his appointment by NSW Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig MP for a period of three months.

The Interim Administrator undertakes the role and responsibilities of the Councillors. Council meetings will still be held and will remain open to the community.

The Acting General Manager will continue to deal with the day-to-day operations of the Council with services, operations and projects delivered as normal for the community.

Born and raised in the Northern Rivers, Mr Rayner has long standing connections to the Clarence Valley. He grew up in Coraki, attended Lismore High School and began his local government career in Grafton straight out of high school. His local government career now spans more than 60 years, including 33 years as General Manager of Sutherland Shire Council, followed by a range of advisory and administrator roles.

"Having grown up in the area, I know the Clarence Valley and understand how important Council and its services are to the community," Mr Rayner said.

During his tenure, Mr Rayner will work independently and will report back to the Minister in December on governance issues.

"The Minister has identified key priorities that he'd like me to review," he said.

"This includes overseeing the appointment of a new General Manager, a recent decision of the Council, as well as reviewing a range of governance matters.

"I recognise this is an important period for Council, its staff and the community. I will take the time to listen, understand the issues and ensure the work undertaken is thorough, fair and evidence based.

"My door is open to residents who wish to talk to me."
