Hume City Council has endorsed its Advocacy Framework 2026–2030, setting a clear direction for how Council will advocate to State and Federal Governments for the infrastructure and services our growing community needs.
The Framework, adopted at the Council Meeting on 15 December 2025, outlines a strategic approach to advocacy and identifies nine priority projects and issues that will guide Council's efforts over the next year.
Under the Framework, Council will take a leadership role in advocating for:
Redevelopment of Broadmeadows Train Station
Somerton Road duplication from Roxburgh Park Drive to Mickleham Road
Creating stricter policies to limit illegal dumping
Donnybrook Road duplication from the Hume Freeway to Donnybrook Train Station
Mickleham Road duplication from Craigieburn Road to Donnybrook Road
Sunbury Road duplication from Melbourne Airport to Bulla-Diggers Rest Road
We will also partner with neighbouring Northern Councils Alliance Councils to advocate for:
A hospital in Melbourne's north
Hume Freeway upgrades
Upfield Line extension and electrification
A five-stage approach has also been agreed upon to ensure this Framework delivers the greatest impact for our community. This includes identifying advocacy priorities, creating and fulfilling advocacy campaigns, and publicly celebrating and evaluating these actions for transparency and improvement.
These decisions reinforce Council's commitment to an unbiased, collaborative approach to community improvement that builds strong relationships with all levels of government.
