Council Staff Raise Funds for Local Charities

Griffith City Council staff are continuing to do their bit to make a difference in the lives of locals, raising funds each year to support charities that provide care, dignity and practical help to those who need it most.

This year's fundraising efforts supported organisations that assist breast cancer patients, reduce the number of unwanted animals in the community, provide essential food and household items through a 'take what you need, give what you can' approach, and offer direct support to people facing hardship. While their services differ, they all share one thing in common, a commitment to helping the Griffith community.

A special morning tea was held on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, where cheques of $500 were presented to Griffith Breast Cancer Support Group, Community Pantry, Friends of Griffith Pound and Griffith Helping Hands. The event brought staff and charity representatives together to recognise the impact of the initiative and the vital work being carried out across the community.

Council's General Manager Scott Grant said the program reflected the generosity and strong community focus of staff.

"This is a wonderful way for staff to give back to the community they live and work in each day," Mr Grant said.

"I am incredibly proud of our staff for their willingness to make a difference behind the scenes and for recognising the important role our local charities play in supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community."

The program has become a valued tradition within Council, with staff contributing through a monthly casual clothes donation, as well as raffles, morning teas and other small fundraising activities throughout the year. Over the past 15 years, staff have donated well over $20,000 to a wide range of community groups.

Staff also support an annual Christmas giving tree each year, donating gifts and non-perishable food items for hampers to be delivered through St Vincent de Paul.
