At the 23 September 2025 Council Meeting, Council resolved to raise urgent concerns with the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) regarding the scale and intensity of the proposed Woolworths development in Gladesville, particularly in relation to the excessive building height and density, inadequate affordable housing provision and lack of justifiable precedent.
Council will write to the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) in relation to Council's assessment of the building height and density and inadequate affordable housing provision. Council will also highlight the cumulative impacts of pending developments in the Gladesville area that will put further pressure on transport and infrastructure.
Council is in favour of development that increases housing supply and services for the community, provided it is balanced with infrastructure capacity and community needs.
Ryde is currently experiencing significant uplift across the LGA, and proposals must be carefully assessed to avoid cumulative adverse impacts.
We are inviting our community to voice their concerns by making an online submission via the NSW Planning Portal by Monday 17 November 2025.
