Council to test Ross River Dam spillway gates

Townsville City Council will test the Ross River Dam spillway gates tomorrow as part of its safety testing regime.

The testing will ensure compliance with legislation, as it is an essential part of Council's dam management plan and demonstrates the spillway gates are in good working order.

A Council spokesperson said the testing includes releasing a minor amount of water through the spillway – about half of one day of the city's average water consumption.

"A warning will sound immediately before the testing is scheduled to begin, so residents living in the area should not be alarmed," the spokesperson said.
