Townsville City Council is offering pet owners the chance to get their dogs and cats microchipped for free this weekend.
Residents can take their registered and approved pets to Cambridge Park in Vincent on Saturday to get their furry friends microchipped.
Community Health and Environment Committee Chair Cr Ann-Maree Greaney said the free microchip is invaluable for pet owners.
"Dogs and cats are much-loved members of the family and it's very distressing when they go missing," Cr Greaney said.
"If your pet is microchipped it is much easier for Council to reunite you with them if they get lost."
Local Councillor Maurie Soars is urging families to make the most of the opportunity.
"No bookings are required for this free service and it's open to registered dogs and approved cats that are at least eight weeks old," Cr Soars said.
"Owners of unregistered pets can register them at the park on Saturday – and then take advantage of the free microchipping offer."
