Council welcomes Country Week tennis event

Swan Hill will welcome 1150 players next month for the 2021 Country Week tennis event.

Hosted by the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the week-long round robin event will take place from Sunday14 February to Friday 19 February. Although the event can only have a maximum of 1000 participants on site at any one time, Mayor Bill Moar said the event would provide a great boost to the local economy.

"Country Week is the largest grassroots tennis event in Australia and injects up to $1.5 million into the local economy.

"The event sees accommodation facilities totally booked, hospitality venues in full flight and dollars flowing in the town.

"What's more, Country Week is a chance to showcase our wonderful municipality and encourage visitors to explore our region and all it has to offer," Cr Moar added.

Cr Moar acknowledged the hard work of organisers who continued to make Country Week in Swan Hill a success story.

"This will be the 18th time Swan Hill has hosted the Country Week Tennis event since 1991, and it continues to be a great success - thanks to the hard-working organisers and numerous volunteers who make Country Week possible.

"More than 70 volunteers are involved in helping stage Country Week - including many members from the Swan Hill Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and people from outside the club.

"This includes preparing almost 100 grass courts to stage the event, as well as general logistics to ensure Country Week runs smoothly," Cr Moar added.

"These volunteers do an incredible job, they are the reason why the Swan Hill event receives such praise from the participants".

The Swan Hill Region Information Centre has also supported Country Week Tennis event organisers by running a home hosting program, providing a range of properties and variety of accommodation styles to meet the needs of the influx of visitors to the region.
