Council's Commitment To Gender Equality

Council is committed to promoting gender equality and respect in the early years.

Council's Gender Equality Action Plan 2021-2025 aims to:

  • accelerate gender equality initiatives and outcomes within the organisation

  • contribute to preventing gender-based violence in our communities.

Free from violence program

Under the Free from Violence Local Government Grant Program 2022-2025, Council identified a need to focus on the early years.

The aim is to foster environments that:

  • celebrate diversity

  • teach respectful relationships

  • challenge stereotypes

  • empower children to embrace being themselves.

Creating a strong foundation of gender equality is crucial to preventing gender-based violence in our community.

Developing new resources

Council partnered with FVFree Level Playground to develop resources for the Customer and Library Services team.

These resources help staff run activities, games and reading sessions that support inclusive environments where all children can thrive.

The suite of resources includes:

  • 2 rhyme time and story time kits

  • lesson plans

  • a Customer and Library Services handbook

  • a parent and caregiver guide

  • a recommended booklist
