Courtney Act swaps the stage for the interviewer's chair in conversation with artist Gerwyn Davies.
Courtney Act, the Brisbane-born performer who won Celebrity Big Brother UK, will interview artist Gerwyn Davies in front of a live audience at the Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah on Saturday 7 November, for one night only.
The event coincides with Davies' exhibition Sunburn at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre. Davies turns postcards and souvenirs into sequinned, spandex costumes, then photographs himself wearing them in layered sets inspired by the visual culture of Australia's Sunrise Strip. He made much of the work during a 3-week residency at the Gallery's Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio in 2025.
Act, who has also competed on Australian Idol and finished second on RuPaul's Drag Race, is known for her intelligence, humour and knack for asking insightful questions. She will lead a lively conversation exploring Davies' artistic process, inspirations and the playful camp aesthetics that have become a hallmark of his work.
"Davies performs each role within the work, wearing every costume," Tweed Regional Gallery Director Ingrid Hedgcock said. "His interweaving of photography and textile practices results in wonderfully lavish mise-en-scènes."
The evening takes the conversation beyond the gallery walls and into the Regent Cinema. Guests can settle in with popcorn and buy drinks and food from the Regent Cinema Bar.
Gerwyn Davies x Courtney Act: In Conversation is presented by the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation Ltd with support from Jan Murphy Gallery (Brisbane), Halcyon House and M|Arts Precinct. The Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio is supported by benefactor Mr Tima Fairfax AC.
