Covid sugarcane industry updates

The Cairns and Yarrabah Local Government Areas are in lockdown until 4pm Wednesday 11 August. Some restrictions continue in southeast Queensland following the lifting of the lockdown on Sunday 8 August. Details of the lockdown requirements are on the Queensland Government website.

Information for growers/harvesters:

Can I continue to harvest and deliver sugarcane to the mill/transport location?

Yes. Cane harvesting operations can continue. You must wear a mask at all times. Agriculture has been designated an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Can workers/contractors attend my farm?

Yes. Only people doing essential work can be moving around and must wear masks at all times. See below for information on cleaning machinery and other workplace practices to minimise the risk of transmission.
