CPAC Open Day sets new cultural standard

More than 7,500 people attended, over 3,500 meals were sold and a new standard for community engagement in arts and cultural experiences was set at the Cairns Performance Arts Centre Open Day.

The event, held June 22, started with self-guided tours of CPAC at 11am with over 4,500 people visiting the theatres and backstage areas of the facility.

Between noon and 4pm, 15 pop up restaurants and food vans were set up on Florence Street for Meet Eat Repeat, with an average of 250 dishes served per stall.

Attendance peaked between 4,500 and 5,000 across the precinct at about 5.30pm.

Four local bands performed at Munro Martin Parklands in front of an audience of about 3,000, setting the stage for the headline act of Australian icon Pete Murray.
